PROCESS GROUPS

  • Improve interpersonal skills

  • Deepen self-understanding

Groups and classes provide a safe and friendly social environment where you can heal, grow, and thrive.

It has been well-established that group therapy is an effective method for targeting the relational aspects of symptoms, behaviors, thoughts, and emotions. In a group, the relationships between members, as well as with the group leader, begin to form and each member's longstanding social patterns emerge.

Hope builds as a members witnesses others in similar situations heal and grow.

The sense of isolation and being secretly "defective" dissolve as it is discovered that other people have been through the same awful experiences. Finding out that you are not alone can provide a huge sense of relief and even help the healing process.

Clients who enter feeling a deep sense of having nothing to offer anyone else find they can be of importance to others. This can boost self-esteem and begin the process of thinking in a new way.

With the help of a highly skilled group therapist, clients can work within the group to learn to attune to their interactional style, improve the way they respond to others, be less judgmental, and even have more empathy.

It is worth noting that many clients think joining a group of strangers seems intimidating, but (again, with a very skilled group therapist leading the way), these strangers can become a new support network, a sounding board for all sorts of issues and ideas, a source of specific ideas for improving a difficult or challenging situation. Listening to the problems of others can help you put your problems into perspective and also help you learn how different people with different personalities and backgrounds look at situations in different ways.

The bottom line here, is that group therapy is a great modality all by itself, and it is often just what is needed to round out individual treatment.

All of our groups and classes are limited to 6 participants in order to improve group cohesion and ensure adequate contact between

clients and the provider.

PERSONAL GROWTH GROUPS

Our personal growth groups are a great way to improve your coping abilities, interpersonal skills, and receive social support. These sessions are designed to provide a caring and safe space in which to share your thoughts and feelings with others as you learn new skills. Some of our personal growth groups require regular attendance; others are more flexible. These groups typically run for 10+ sessions, though support groups may be ongoing (i.e., with no set end date).

SKILLS CLASSES

Our skills classes are designed to provide intensive training in a variety of skills that address problems such as sleep issues, inability to relaxation, and lack of adequate self-care. These groups are typically limited to 4-10 sessions.

PROCESS GROUPS

Our process groups are best for people who want to dive deep into their social interactional style and discover their relationship patterns, develop a healthier interpersonal style, and improve self-reflection.

Process groups, by design, run for longer periods of time and add new members infrequently, though you may be able to get on a waiting list, if you are interested.
